Dr. Stephen J. Costello has given his kind permission for LogoTalk Radio to present his lecture entitled Saying Yes to Life in Spite of Everything. This was the keynote address at a seminar entitled Suicide and the Search for Meaning: Answers from Viktor Frankl’s Logotherapy held at the European Parliament Buildings in Dublin on November 17, 2012.
Dr. Costello, founder and director of the Viktor Frankl Institute of Ireland, is a philosopher, logotherapist/existential analyst, and author. He has been lecturing philosophy and psychology for over twenty years in University College Dublin, Trinity, and, more recently, in the Dublin Business School.
He was educated in St. Gerard's School, Castleknock College, and University College Dublin, where he read Philosophy and Spanish Language and Literature. His Master's degree in philosophy was in existentialism and his PhD degree was on psychoanalysis and hermeneutics. Subsequently, he trained at the Irish Institute of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy, gaining a Diploma in Psychoanalytic Studies with a thesis on Lacan and criminology.
Dr. Costello is a Diplomate in Logotherapy and sits on the international faculty of the Viktor Frankl Institute of Logotherapy. He is a board member of the International Association of Institutions for Training and Research in Logotherapy and Existential Analysis. He has published widely in the International Forum for Logotherapy. Dr. Costello also acts as coadjutor of the London Chapter of the Viktor Frankl Institute of Logotherapy.
He is the author of multiple books on psychoanalysis, logotherapy, and philosophy, including the forthcoming Philosophy and the Flow of Presence: Desire, Drama and the Divine Ground of Being.
