About Your Host

Marshall H. Lewis, Ph.D., is a psychotherapist, logotherapist and existential analyst, and Bible scholar. With over 25 years of psychotherapy experience, Marshall presently serves as Clinical Director for Southwest Guidance Center, part of the community mental health system of the State of Kansas.

Marshall completed a terminal master's degree in clinical psychology at Marshall University and a Ph.D. in Bible, Culture, and Hermeneutics (with a concentration in Hebrew Bible) at the Center for Jewish, Christian, and Islamic Studies at the Chicago Theological Seminary. His dissertation develops logotherapy as a hermeneutic and then applies it to the Book of Job.

Marshall is a Diplomate Clinician in Logotherapy and is a member of the Science Committee of the Viktor Frankl Institute Vienna.  He also sits on the international faculty of the Viktor Frankl Institute of Logotherapy.  He produces and hosts LogoTalk Radio, the world's premier podcast on logotherapy and existential analysis.

Description of Practice

"My theoretical orientation is existential and phenomenological, based primarily upon the work of Viktor Frankl.  Cognitive-behavioral approaches, such as those developed by Albert Ellis, Aaron Beck and Donald Meichenbaum, are eclectically mixed within this overarching framework.  I accept the logotherapy concept of a will to meaning and believe that hard work is often necessary for meaning to be discovered.  Hence, the goal of psychotherapy is to help create conditions where individual meaning may be realized through the development of thoughts and behaviors that favor it."
