#35 Interview with Mrs. Renee Feagans

Click here to download Interview with Mrs Renee Feagans.

During this year’s World Congress, I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Renee Feagans and her husband.  I learned that she listens to LogoTalk Radio before the World Congresses to get herself in the mood for the conferences.  Mrs. Feagans has been a guest at many of the World Congresses and has an involvement in logotherapy dating back several years.

Now happily remarried, Mrs. Feagans was previously married to Dr. Jerry Long, an iconic name in the history of logotherapy who passed away in 2002.

While recovering from an accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down, Dr. Long wrote a letter to Viktor Frankl.  They soon became friends and, eventually, colleagues.  Dr. Long often appeared with Dr. Frankl at events around the world.  Dr. Frankl frequently spoke of Jerry Long's life as "a living testimony to logotherapy lived and the defiant power of the human spirit."

LogoTalk Radio is pleased to have Mrs. Feagans as our guest on today’s show.

Click here to download Interview and Dramatic Reading with Chef Rev. Dr. Lise Worthington.

Rev. Dr. Lise Worthington, Chef and minister, trained at the Culinary Institute of America,  Hebrew Union Theological Seminary and Union Theological Seminary.  Her passion -- the love affair between food and faith -- influences not only her theology but a willingness to share the creative, spiritual and wisdom filled message:  food matters.

I met Dr. Worthington at this year’s World Congress where we both attended the advanced course in Logotherapy, Franklian Psychology:  The Theory and Therapy of Mental Disorders.  Dr. Worthington did a dramatic reading as part of the class that impressed me so much that I asked her to record it to share with our Logotalk Radio listeners.

Dr. Worthington also presented at the World Congress.  Her paper is entitled Babette’s Feast:  The Soul of a Chef – A Franklian Response to the Jungian’s Parable of Trauma.  Dr. Worthington's website is:

#26 Interview with Ernest J. Nackord, Ph.D.

Ernest J. Nackord, Ph.D., who insists on being called Ernie, is a clinical psychologist, pilot and personal friend of Dr. Viktor Frankl.  He practiced for 38 years in the counseling department of the City College of San Francisco and was a visiting lecturer in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.  Ernie had offices in Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco.

Ernie is a very humble man and does not want to talk about himself at all.  In World War II, he was a pilot in the US Army Air Corp, the forerunner of the US Air Force.  His primary aircraft was the B-26 Martin Marauder, of which he was an aircraft commander.  He also flew the P-61, the B-29 and the A-26.

After the war, Ernie worked for three major airlines.  He shared cockpit time with Viktor and Ellie Frankl and recalls a large poster of the two in the cockpit that he had made as a gift.

He is also a part time "jock" having worked for the San Fransicso 49ers, the Giants, etc.  "That was great fun," he says, "especially for my seven sons."

The interview in this podcast is entirely spontaneous.  Having met through a mutual friend, I was calling Ernie to answer some of his questions about the podcast.  After that, the interview simply began.

David and Bonnie Paul of the Univeristy of Santa Monica Freedom to Choose Service Project.  The Freedom to Choose Service Project shares principles of meaningful living to inmates at the Valley State Prison for Women, much of the work taking Viktor Frankl's logotherapy as foundational.

#25 Logotherapy Overview

Click here to download Logotherapy Overview

Happy New Year from LogoTalk.Net!  To start off the new year right, I am pleased to announce the opening of private consultations based on logotherapy and existential analysis.  Consultations as offered here are not a medical or psychological service and are not a substitute for psychotherapy.  Whereas psychotherapy helps a client with psychological symptoms return to an optimal level of functioning, Defiant Power Solutions collaborates with a person to achieve excellence in living.

Personal Consultations by Telephone:  Personal consultations in existential analysis are offered internationally by telephone.  The first 50 minute consultation is offered free of charge to determine if the client and consultant are a good match and feel comfortable working together.  Contact Defiant Power Solutions to schedule an appointment, inquire about pricing, or for more information.  Consultations are only offered in English.

To celebrate, Defiant Power Solutions is giving away an ebook explaining Viktor Frankl's theory.  The first chapter of the ebook is also the subject of this month's podcast:  Overview of Logotherapy.

AN OVERVIEW OF VIKTOR FRANKL'S

LOGOTHERAPY AND EXISTENTIAL ANALYSIS

by Marshall H. Lewis, M. A.

This complementary ebook provides a detailed overview of the theory of logotherapy and existential analysis as seen by the author.  It also discusses logotherapy's place within the fields of psychology and psychiatry.
